Kenyan police said Tuesday they are holding three people suspected to have been involved in Monday’s explosion which killed one person and injured 37 others in the capital of Nairobi.
Police spokesman, Eric Kiraith, told a news conference in Nairobi that three people of "Somali origin" reported by eyewitnesses to have disembarked from a taxi near the scene moments before the explosion were innocent Rwandese.
"It has now been established that the three were Rwandese nationals who were on normal cause of their private affairs. They were interrogated and freed," Kiraith told a news conference in Nairobi.
Clashes between police and anti-G8 demonstrators injured more than 400 police officers during a huge protest against the upcoming summit in northern Germany, authorities said yesterday. Protest organizers said 520 demonstrators were hurt.
Police said 63 remained behind bars after violence that broke out Saturday on the sidelines of a demonstration by tens of thousands in the north German port of Rostock.
