2001-Terrorists hijacked (劫持) several planes on Sept. 11, 2001. Two knocked into New York’s World Trade Center (WTC), toppling (使倾倒) the two highest buildings in the city. A third seriously damaged the Pentagon. The fourth hijacked plane crashed in Pennsylvania. Several thousand people were killed in the attacks.
