The man in the first picture has the word " BECKHAM" , the name of a famous British soccer player, written on his face, while the other in the second picture is spending 300 yuan making his hair in the Beckham style. These pictures bring one controversial issue into the limelight—idol worship. A recent survey reveals that 70 percent of college students have publicly demonstrated their adoration for stars. However, nowadays, ubiquitous idol worship demands time and energy—notably, money—to support such crazy adoration. My neighbor is a case in point. Last summer, she even took the trouble to leave home for Changsha just for watching the "Super Voice Girl" competition. The underlying reason behind this phenomenon, I believe, is nothing more than the pursuit of self-identity. Idols with the traits young people appreciate will, undoubtedly, become the shining stars in their eyes. Put another way, the so-called i-dols are the ideal selves of the young. Idol worship is a double-edged sword. So humble and dil-igent are some idols that young people will follow their lead to become excellent. Conversely, it’s a waste of time if the young just envy their gorgeous appearances. In short, stay rational and don’t make your intense love for idols misplaced.
