答案 At first, Mr. Wang busily served the customers queuing up for Sesame Cakes (Shaobing). Impressed by the bustling customers, Mr. Li, Mr. Xu and Mr. Zhang respectively opened a new Sesame Cake shop. Some time later, however, the new shops didn’t flourish as expected, and all the shops suffered slack business, two closing up and two without any visitors. Thus it can be seen that the beautiful dream to benefit by simply coping others will probably become a nightmare in the end. Why does this happen? The theory of supply and demand can explain it. As an increasing number of suppliers enter the market, supply will finally surpass demand and then suppliers will be confronted with great loss rather than their expected benefits. A persuasive example concerns the crazy pursuit of popular specialties in universities. English and computer were the two most popular majors ten years ago. Graduates of those two majors used to be highly welcomed in job market and able to easily find highly-paid jobs. Every year a huge number of new university students, eager to get good career opportunities, blindly followed the suit and continued to choose the two majors. Gradually supply exceeds demand. Now, too many English and computer major graduates compete for too few job vacancies and thus it is greatly difficult for them to find a job, let alone a satisfying one. All in all, it is risky to simply imitate others and it is advisable to make independent and reasonable decisions. For example, it is better for students to choose majors according to their own interest and the demand of the society.
