答案 It is argued by some that government money is better spent on art and sport education instead of competitions in these areas. The following essay will describe my thoughts on this. Initially, I would like to clarify to those that do not believe in competition that we are, by nature, highly competitive. It is of course very important that education is properly funded however; certainly with sports activities if there is no competition to challenge ability and potentially improve it, then what’s the point? Competitions such as the Olympic Games not only can allow individual athletes to compete against each other in a relatively friendly manner, but also enable nations to do the same. Art is a different matter. I personally do not know of any art competitions, but I’m certain that they must exist. For me, I believe for most people, art is a subjective thing. Someone who enjoys looking at Renaissance art might despise Picasso, and vice versa. Therefore, I can understand more why art education may be more important than competition. Art can be enjoyed by all, revered by some and hated by others. Who is to say that my decision for a piece of art winning a competition is better than those who would disagree with me? Overall, I would have to say I disagree with the statement. Sport by its very nature is competitive and, to be honest, I have a feeling the art world might be too. Whereas sport will always have a clear winner and loser, art is a little bit more difficult to judge.
