Dear Ms. Garret,
I have been a subscriber of The Clarion Monthly for the last two years, and my subscription was not supposed to end until December of this year. However, I have not received a single issue since last July, which prompted me to call your company’s customer service hotline yesterday to relay my concern. I spoke with Mr. Ross Lawrence, who informed me that The Clarion Monthly is no longer in print, and that the last issue was released three months ago.
Mr. Lawrence also informed me that subscribers were sent a notice via e-mail. I never received this notice, however. Since I have received only six issues of the journal this year, I would like to request a 50 percent refund of the $430 annual fee that I paid.
I am hoping that you will address my concern as soon as possible. Thank you.
Yours truly,
Arthur Clayton

Date: September 15
Subject: Subscription
I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience you experienced with your subscription to The Clarion Monthly. Although we notified our subscribers in April that the magazine would cease publication after June, it appears that there was a computer error and a few of our readers did not receive the notification. We hope that you will accept our apology.
We have verified that there are six months remaining in your subscription, and will issue you a refund for the unfilled portion of the agreement. The amount will be transferred to your account unless you prefer a check, which we can mail to your home or office. In addition, we are sending you a 30 percent discount voucher, which you can use to subscribe to any of our other publications.
Thank you, and again, my sincerest apologies.
Best regards,
Deborah Garret
What is suggested in the second e-mail?
选项
A、Issues of The Clarion Monthly will be unavailable temporarily.
B、Mr. Clayton’s subscription was terminated by mistake.
C、Ms. Garret would prefer to send a check.
D、Mr. Clayton will need to provide his payment preference.
答案
D
解析
本题为关于第二封电子邮件中所提及内容的推断题,因此应定位至第二封电子邮件。邮件中提到“The amount will be transferred to your account unless you prefer a check, which we can mail to your home or office.”,即如未特别要求支票,则相应的金额将通过银行转账到户;如特别偏好支票,则相应金额的支票将邮寄到对方家里或工作单位,故可推知克莱顿先生需要告知对方在支票和银行转账中更倾向于哪种方式,因此(D)Mr.Clayton will need to provide his payment preference.是正确答案。
