This graph indicates the number of undergraduates who worked as private teachers. In 1988, the number of the students who did temporary-jobs made up abort 10 per cent. However, the number increased quickly to 50 per cent in 1993. Surprisingly, it dropped to 38 per cent in 1998. I think the reasons for these changes are as follows: in 1988, the tuition fees in college were comparatively low, and the students hadn’t the sense of earning money to offer their own study. Meanwhile, market-economy was less developed and the society didn’t offer many part time jobs. In 1993, with the rapid economical development and the new tuition fees policy being put into practice the students wanted to earn some money as well as practice their knowledge. On the other hand, the market, comparatively mature, offered many temporary jobs. And then, in 1998, perhaps the part-time job market showed some shortcomings and failed many students. Most students, feeling the high requirements of competence in the society, decided to concentrate their energy on the accumulation of knowledge instead of on that of money. So, the number of college students who took part-time jobs declined.
