    Tell me not in mournful numbers,
    Life is but an empty dream!
    For the soul is dead that slumbers
    And things are not what they seem.
    Life is real! Life is earnest!
    And the grave is not its goal;
    Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
    Was not spoken of the soul.
    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
    Is our destined and our way;
    But to act,
    That much to-morrow.
    Find us farther than to-day.

答案 This part of the poem written by Longfellow mainly tells us that life is real and earnest, we should act positively and optimistically to make it better. Life is not a plain course directly towards grave. What we should do is not to wait for death as it’s the destination of life, but to act to make it distinctive. In the process we may have setbacks, and sometimes we may even be depressed by the reality and think that life is but an empty dream, thus lose the motivation to act. However, just as the poet said, things are not what they seem. Life is real and life is earnest. Do not steep in the enjoyment of certain gain or the sorrow of certain loss, for they are not the goal of life. Look ahead and act to make a difference. If we can make progress everyday and find us farther than yesterday, we have found our way. We are the master of life. Whether our life is normal or extraordinary depends on what we do. So, act energetically to live a real and earnest life.
