The chart above describes major reasons for study in terms of different age groups. As is indicated in the chart, the majority (around 80%) of young students (those under 26) study for a promising career, and the proportion decreases in accordance with the rise of the learners’ ages, and only 15% of students over 49 claimed that they study for careers. Conversely, people tend to learn for interest with the growth of age, as only 10% of learners under 26 are studying for interest while as high as 70% of their over-49 counterparts have made the same choice. Essentially, the choices made by different age groups are understandable. In general, energetic and ambitious as they are, young people tend to equip themselves with as much as knowledge to get better jobs so that they may be blessed with promising careers. However, as the learners get older, they are more likely to seek life enjoyment by studying for individual interests. It is interesting to note that the purposes for study come to a balance in learners aged between 40-49, which suggests their balanced life between careers and personal pursuits.
