Teaching Objectives: (1) Knowledge objective Students can get some knowledge of the special things that their hometown or city is famous for. (3) Emotional objective Students will know more about their local culture and love their hometown more. Teaching Key and Difficult Points: (1) Teaching key point Students can write a paragraph to introduce their local specialty. (2) Teaching difficult point Students can know much about the specialty to enrich the content of their writing. Major Steps: Step 1 Pre-writing (10 minutes) Taking Beijing Roast Duck as an instance. (1) Creating writing motivation Show students the picture of Beijing Roast Duck, and have a talk with them about the duck as follows: T: What is it? Do you know? S: Beijing Roast Duck. T: Do you know some details about it? Let’s have a look. (Show students a video about Beijing Roast Duck) (2) Brainstorming Ask students to have a discussion to find more information about the Beijing Roast Duck by using the information and the questions in 3a, such as the history and its feature. (3) Freewriting Ask students to write down the information that they have collected. (Justification: In this step, students can get familiar with the writing topic and can get enough information about the topic, and then set a good foundation for the further writing.) Step 2 While-writing (10 minutes) (1) Drafting Ask students to make up sentences about Beijing Roast Duck and then finish the writing in 3b. When they are writing, walk around the classroom and ask them to pay attention to the grammar, spelling and even punctuation, and give the students help if they need. (2) Peer-editing Ask students to change their articles with their partners and have a peer editing. During the process, ask students to pay attention to the usage of passive voice and their expressions, then correct mistakes, if any. (Justification: In this step, students can get organized of what they had gathered and their logical thinking, writing and editing ability can be improved.) Step 3 Post-writing (5 minutes) Revising Help students to reduce the redundancy and make their writing more concise and logical, and enrich the content by providing more perspectives. (Justification: This step can raise students’ awareness about how to develop ideas and how to write clearly.)
