答案 On the Pursuit of New Things The confident years brought and reinforced by modern science and technology have been witnessing a vehement aspiration for something new among people—from the latest model and the most recent version, to the newest and the most improved formula in almost all fields. Our obsession with newness even stretches from material goods to cultural values. Some say this wave of welcoming novelty constantly propels the development of human civilization while others disapprove. From my point of view, this fascination benefits the advance of human civilization both in material and spirit. Materially, fervent pursuit of something forever new is beneficial to economic growth. Money spent on new products has been reaching a rocketing height. This is definitely a shot of adrenaline to the economy, especially the sluggish one. It is estimated that billions of dollars are spent each year on electronic gadgets such as renewed versions of iPad and iPhone. This case in point shows how the hunt for newer, better and more convenient goods brings benefits to both the manufacturers and consumers. On the perspective of spirit, quest for innovation widens our horizon and promotes intelligence development. Firstly, new schools of thought in various realms are hailed and welcomed. New art forms are tried and experienced in metropolises. New cultural values are redressed and recognized in an unprecedented pace. For example, some western festivals such as Halloween and Valentine’s Day are celebrated with great enthusiasm in China, which definitely should be viewed as a symbol of embracing alien culture. Rather than as a cultural invasion, we should view and cuddle this newness with an open mind. Besides, the production of new versions of goods calls urgently for the development of science and technology which in turn spurs our sagacity. For example, the intelligence involved in the process of manufacturing brand new goods, such as the originality and the wild imagination invested in designing, the persistence in trial and error when putting the new products into practice, and the scrutiny and introspection of the feedback information on certain goods after they are launched into the market, all these qualities triggered off by innovation give a huge impetus to human wisdom. Above all, looking back into history, we can easily find out that the kaleidoscopic world is refreshing and enlightening our mind with constant waves of new things. Rather than Den of Evil, this intoxication with innovation entitles mankind with intelligence and wisdom. This zeal for newness is destined to drive us to a higher understanding of the world as well as ourselves.
