My Ideal Job 吴莹 Everyone has his own idea of an ideal job. Some may want to be a lawyer, others may want to be a doctor, still others may think that to be a journalist is superb. For me, however, teaching is an ideal job, for it has so many advantages. Firstly, teaching may help a person to stay young. As a teacher, he will have to communicate with his students, to understand what they think, and try his best to mix with them. Thus, a teacher is able to use their language, share their youthful ideas, keep up with the latest fashion. In this way, he can then remain vigorous, fresh and enthusiastic. Secondly, a teacher is entitled to summer and winter vacations every year. He can make full use of the time by attending summer schools, reading his favorite books, writing research papers, touring scenic spots with his family or simply refreshing himself back at home. Thirdly, the position of a teacher is secure. Compared with other professions or jobs, teaching often features a stable and good salary, a quiet work environment, and simple social relations. Society is now characterized by so many unpredictable factors. You may have a job which seems first rate on the surface: reputable, handsome pay, high standing, etc. , but chances are that you may easily lose it if more competent people appear. To be sure, a teacher also needs to bring his knowledge up to date, but he generally need not worry about losing his job. Finally, teaching is also a prestigious job. A teacher is held in high esteem by society as a whole, because he shoulders the responsibility for imparting knowledge to the young. On a teacher is placed the hope for the future of his students. His work is thus deemed worthy and respectable. A good teacher cares about his students tremendously and will be remembered by all his students. Think of the number of students one can teach in one’s lifetime! These advantages are beneficial to a teacher himself and also to society as a whole. Therefore, to be a teacher is quite ideal for me, for it will meet not only/my basic needs, but also those high-level needs like esteem and self-actualization. I would love to be surrounded by young people and get the immense pleasure from working with them.
