答案 SCIENCE AND PEOPLE When science is mentioned, some people often think that science, has nothing to do with ordinary people. Is it right? Can we realize our modernization with a high illiterate rate and a low percentage of people with higher education? Absolutely not! Nor can we produce high-quality products with a lot of poor-skilled laborers, not to mention catching up with the advanced science and: technology in the world with a majority of its young people having no scientific knowledge. In fact, science is a decisive factor for any country’s development. Without science, the development of society and progress of human race are impossible. When asked about science, some people will immediately associate it with many scientific discoveries such as the computer, electronic appliances, satellite and so on. It is true that science has revolutionized our way of living and changed the lives of millions of people. It has become the new "magic" capable of doing everything. The latest gadgets and devices around us for a better living have come as a result of scientific studies. In modern society, man can hardly live without penicillin, telephone, TV and the computer. But the true values of science do not merely lie in material things. Rather, they lie in the way which science contributes to man’s physical, intellectual and mental well-being. Science has not only improved our standard of living, but most importantly, our understanding and opportunities for spiritual and intellectual growth. More than any other subject, science has freed us from ignorance and has multiplied our energies, hopes and ambitions. Thus science concerns us all. China needs to popularize science among its people in order to promote its development.
