Keep Yourself Psychologically Healthy With heavy pressures from study, work and personal relationship, some college students find themselves increasingly depressed and unaccomplished. According to a sample investigation on college students in Beijing, 23.6% of the investigated population suffered from depression. Psychological health has become such a serious issue, and college students need to learn to decompress themselves. Firstly, students should set a proper goal, which will help to lighten their psychological burdens. Some college students, being elites in the school, have high expectations for their future and set unrealistic goals that are hard to achieve. When the pressure of realizing these goals becomes overwhelming, they simply collapse and even think of suicide. Failure to accomplish ambitions usually leads to psychological problems such as anxiety, self-contempt and the sense of loss. To avoid this kind of pressure, college students should evaluate themselves properly and find their positions with a practical mind. Secondly, shifting one’s attention is also an effective way to ensure psychological health. For example, busy as he was, the iconic Apple founder Steve Jobs happened to have immense interest in music, which helped him to relax after work and even inspired him to develop such musical gadgets as iPod and iTunes. Other than music, there are many other ways to relax oneself and let go of the dismay inside one’s heart. The key is to devote oneself to new adventures and avoid clinging to negative emotions. For college students, it is advisable to stop being troubled by mistakes made in the previous exam, and to move on to prepare for the next one, or they may fail both. Last but not least, it’s very important for college students to share their feelings with others to develop positive feelings. As the saying goes, worries are reduced by half when they’re shared with someone else. There is a limit that one can bear and no one can actually deal with all the difficulties alone. When you’re feeling hopeless and unable to carry on, talking with your family, friends or people you trust will give you enormous warmth and strength. The consulting centre in college is also a good place to go for college students who have psychological problems. All they have to do is to share their feelings with others and to get some advice. Life is full of obstacles and pressures, but it can be easier when you know how to keep yourself psychologically healthy. In this sense, dealing with pressures in a positive way to ensure psychological health is a lesson all college students should take.
