The United States military says troops have killed six Iraqi policemen and seven suspected militants during a raid in Baghdad. The military said the troops were attempting to arrest an Iraqi police officer accused of rebel activity. The military said fighting started when the troops were attacked from an Iraqi police position.
China has approved a new labor law in an effort to improve the rights of workers. China’s National People’s Congress approved the law Friday. The approval comes after 18 months of parliamentary consideration and public debate. The measure aims to improve protection for employees’ legal rights and increase punishment for government officials who abuse their power. The Xinhua News Agency says the law would make officials open to criminal charges for harm to workers. The law would become effective on January 1st.
