W: Welcome to Talkline. I’m your host, Barbara Stone. Our topic today is Internet and we’re going to talk to computer expert Brain Smith. So, Mr. Smith, when did you get started on the Internet?
M: About ten years ago. I was doing a lot of e-mails and I got started through that really.
W: Well, tell us more about the Internet.
M: OK. The Internet is like the biggest research library in the world. There are basically three things you can use the Internet for: finding information, joining the newsgroups, and chatting online.
W: And you use it for all?
M: Not really.(23)I use it mostly for looking through universities’ libraries to get some related information for my research. I chat with my brother in New York sometimes.
W: You know many people especially the young get addicted to using the Internet. How do you think?
M:(24)Yeah, but it seems that no one can be attracted by the information or news online. Mostly they are playing online games, which are always considered as the defect of the Internet, but actually, the most important lies in the users.
W: When do you use it? And do you have regular time?
M: Actually, like a lot of people, I have broadband Internet access. So I can use it anytime, but mostly in the evenings.
W: I see, and one more thing, do you have any tips for those who are using the Internet?
M: I guess I could say a few things.(25)Definitely use the broadband Internet access, which is much faster than dial-up access. That’s the first thing. Try to limit your time and do focus on things that are useful to you.
