Different opinions, whether backed up by a thorough knowledge of the subject or not, pervade on the Internet that it is difficult for us, the common netizens, to discriminate. Worse still, the rampant crimes camouflaged in various cloaks have been a headache even for professional network police. How to solve this problem then? The real-name registration system offers the most sensible answer. For one thing, it would be much easier for us to refer to the informed knowledge in certain fields with the help of many experts who have registered on the Net. The experts, as the bellwethers of one realm or another, can give us real and valuable suggestions on the subject urgently concerned. This could save us much time and energy in differentiating the true from the false since many of us are not endowed with the judging ability of certain professions. Otherwise, we could easily get lost in the labyrinthine information world. For another, real-name registration is a rather effective way to curb crimes and misdeeds. First, many Internet game websites require their gamers to sign in with real names which can prevent adolescents from indulging too much in games. With the real identities, the gamers can be readily detected of their age and conveniently kicked out when they play overtime, which is a blessing for them indeed. Moreover, real-name registration can alleviate the chaotic state of intentionally misleading information. With real names signed in, rumormongers with ill intention would be easily traced and punished, so that they dare not sling mud at someone else without giving it a second thought. Most importantly, this requirement can definitely lower the rate of Internet crimes. For those who have the malicious intention, this system can nip it in the bud; for those who are bold enough to take a risk, it would not take long to track them down and bring them to justice. Some say that real-name registration, if mishandled, can be a threat to our privacy as well as a violation of our human rights. However, nothing goes well without any price. For the former worry, it can be dealt with successfully with the development of technology and for the latter woe, if we netizens follow the moral principles voluntarily, real-name registration wouldn’t be an issue at all.
