W: Do you think dreams predict the future? I had a dream last night that I failed my math exam. I was scared so much.
M: Don’t worry.(9)They say dreams often mean the opposite of what they seem to mean. So if you dream you fail the exam, it actually means you will pass.
W: Really? I hope so. But I’m still a little worried. Dreams are strange things.
M: They sure are. Have you ever had nightmares?
W: Hmm... I don’t know if I should call them nightmares, but when I was in high school, I sometimes dreamed of water. In the dreams, I was surrounded by water. I wasn’t drowning but I was very scared.
M: That’s strange. Aren’t you a good swimmer?
W: Well, I’m not afraid of water when I’m awake. But somehow in those dreams I didn’t know how to swim.
M: That’s puzzling, isn’t it?
W: Yes, I was puzzled by those dreams. But then one day, my mother mentioned that when I was three or four years old, (10)she took me to the swimming pool and somehow without much attention, she lost her grip on me and I was almost drowned.
M: So you think that’s why you had those dreams?
W: Yeah. Actually, I stopped having these dreams after I recognized what caused them.
M: Interesting, isn’t it? We may not remember certain things, but it seems nothing we’ve experienced is forgotten. It’s all stored somewhere in our mind.
W: Right.(11)Personally, I think that’s where dreams originate—all that we’ve seen, heard, or experienced in our waking moment.
M:(11)That’s absolutely true.
