Many fields of science stand to gain from the ongoing analysis of the human genome (基因组), but none more so than biomedicine. The research promises new treatments for a huge range of diseases, all of which must have some genetic component. It could ultimately answer questions about the nature of life itself. It could also answer riddles about addictions such as gambling, or provide treatments for jetlag, or sleep disorders or mental illness.
Computer search engines are already mining the genome for candidate disease genes—more than 40 have been found already and hundreds of more are expected to be confirmed in the next few years. Programs are finding the subtle genetic variations in people that do not cause disease but that could lead to more personalized treatments with fewer sideeffects.
Tiny misspellings in the genome’s biological instructions, either inherited or acquired during one’s lifetime, can make all the difference between health and disease. Genetic tests to detect those glitches(缺点) in people can allow them to reduce that risk by making lifestyle changes or taking preventive drugs. And by studying how the errors cause disease, scientists are getting new ideas about how to design more effective drugs. But scientists warn that there is a long way to goeven if there are only 30,000 genes to examine.
The subtle genetic variations in people could contribute to ______.
选项
答案
more personalized treatments with fewer sideeffects
解析
细节题。第二段最后一句“Programs are finding the subtle genetic variations... lead to more personalized treatments with fewer sideeffects.”说明人与人之间的细微基因差别不能致病,但有利于进行更加个性化的治疗并降低副作用。
