On November 10, 2001, China, the world most populous country, joined the WTO, which of-fers China a new place at the table of nations and makes sweeping changes in nearly: every sector of its society. With the reduced tariffs and an end to import bans, the price of the import products will be lowered down, which must be of great benefit to Chinese consumers. On the other hand, the introduction of overseas investment must give an impetus toward the development of Chinese economy by introducing the advanced technology and successful experience, as well as providing more employment opportunities for Chinese people. But, China’s WTO entry also means a great challenge to her. The increasing imports inevitably impact local industries that are to be defeated unless outdated systems are reformed. Furthermore, with the inflow of capital, the professional-talents from other countries will come forth in large numbers, which is sure to result in the keen talent competition at home. At this critical moment, grasping the opportunity or being eliminated in the competition mainly depends on oneself. And as a college student, what I should do is to attain as much knowledge as possible to meet the needs of society. Anyway, opportunities are only for the prepared mind.
