You will read a short passage, listen to a talk, and answer a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 Seconals to prepare a response and 60 seconds to record the response.
Now read the letter from the campus newspaper about a suggestion to hold an art fair. You will have 45 seconds to read the letter. Begin reading now.
University Art Fair
I believe that the university should hold an art fair to showcase student artworks. This will provide students with an opportunity to exhibit their artworks to the public. Also, the art fair will be a good source of feedback for the art students so that they may improve their techniques. Profits gained from the sale of student artworks can be donated to local charities or even used to fund other campus activities. I believe that having a campus art fair would be of great benefit and enjoyment for everyone who participates in.
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
In the listening the woman expresses her opinion about a university art fair. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
Now listen to two students discussing the letter.
M: Hi, Samantha, did you read the opinion letter in the school newspaper today?
W: The one about the university art fair?
M: Yes, that one. What do you think?
W: I’d have to disagree with that letter. I don’t think it is a good idea.
M: Why is that?
W: Well first, the university already has an art fair on campus that is hosted in the student center. Students already have ample opportunities to display their pieces and get feedback from professors and the public. I don’t really see the need for a second art fair.
M: Oh, I didn’t know that.
W: Second, I don’t think that many of the students would want to donate any proceeds from an art show.
M: Really? You don’t think that they would want to donate to charities?
W: I think most of the art students will want to keep the money. You know, art supplies are rather expensive. Canvas, paint, brushes, and other supplies are not cheap. I think that most students would rather keep the money.
M: I didn’t think of that.
W: I don’t think there will be too much student support for another university art fair.

答案
In an opinion letter, a student proposes that an art fair should be held to display the works of art students. The benefit is threefold: firstly, students will have a chance to exhibit their works to the public; secondly, feedback from the art fair will help the students improve their techniques; thirdly, profits generated from the sale of the artworks can be donated to charities or fund other student activities. The woman disagrees with this proposal. For one thing, there is already an art fair in the student center, and thus she sees no point of hosting a second one. For another, she believes that most of the art students would be reluctant to donate their earnings from the art fair, because they need funds to buy art supplies, such as canvas, paint, brushes.
