Almost 3,500 Swiss adults aged 35 to 75 took part in the study. More than half of participants said they hadn’t napped during the week【C8】________the study began. Of the nappers, 667 said they had taken one or two, 411 said they had taken three to five and 370 said they had taken six to seven naps.
During up【C9】________eight years of follow-up, 155 people had a heart problem. The researchers found that people who took one or two daytime naps per week had a lower risk of cardiovascular issues than non-nappers, even after adjusting for excessive daytime sleepiness,【C10】________can be a symptom of【C11】________health issues, nighttime sleep duration and demographic and lifestyle factors. The【C12】________between more frequent naps and heart health was not as strong.
These short naps could be a valuable way to relieve stress and【C13】________for inadequate sleep at night,【C14】________protecting heart health, the paper says. Sleep【C15】________is a known risk factor for conditions including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease and mental distress, according to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So naps could help the【C16】________ one-third of Americans who don’t get the recommended【C17】________seven hours of rest per night.
