Why didn’t the woman join a singing club last year?

M: Hi, Emily, how was your vacation?
W: It was enjoyable. But I am still looking forward to the beginning of the new semester and 1 miss the club activities.
M: Oh, really? Tell me what kind of clubs you like to do this year.
W: (1) Well, I’ve always loved singing, but I couldn’t get into the singing clubs last year.
M: (1) I know, they can be pretty competitive. But if they don’t accept you, you should start an acappella group!
W: Acappella group? What is an acappella group?
M: Oh, the word "acappella" means singing without any instruments. I’m sure lots of people would want to join. W : Do you think it’s hard to start a club?
M: I don’t think it’s very hard. You should talk to the student life officials. (2) I think you just have to find a professor to sponsor you.
W: That’s all? That’s really easy. I think I’ll do that. What about you, Eric? What kind of clubs and activities do you do outside of class?
M: Personally, I don’t have time for clubs.
W: Why not? Do you have to study very hard for the three English classes you take?
M: (3) Actually, I’m busy because I have a part-time job. I work at a restaurant bartending and serving food.
W: I see. Hope the money is good.
M: The tips are great and I meet a lot of fun people. I hope you can start your own club.
