Early in the period of planned economy, Chinese Auto Industry had established an Auto industrial system, mainly for production of cargo vehicles, in order to meet the needs of economy, national defense and official duties under the system of planned economy. Since the reform and opening up, the Auto industry, oriented towards the market, has made long-stride progress. Especially in recent years, the State has given boost to the development of Auto industry as one of the two pillar industries in a bid to stimulate people’s consumption, spur the market and enlarge domestic demands. Up to now, Chinese Auto Industry has reached a certain scale, unfolding such features as great domestic market potentials, high degree of inter-relations with other industries and strong capability of fund accumulations. Having acquired all necessary conditions for a pillar industry, it is taking a more important position in the whole national economy. With quick development of national economy and further reform of economic system toward market economy, the Auto industry has shown new signs. The trend of duplicated construction and blind launch of new projects has been curbed, the momentum of merger and acquisition enhanced, and the scale economic effect began to emerge. Product structure has been further improved. Also the structure of Auto consumption market has changed significantly, and private purchase has increased. Now the focus of competition among Auto manufacturers is being shifted to product grade, function, performance and quality. Therefore, it is no doubt that China auto industry will have a brilliant future. Yet at the same time, we have to bear in mind that we are far behind the world advanced level and thus still have a long way to go.
