The main users of the internet in China are young adults between i8 and 30 years old. In 2003, they accounted for 56.3% of all users. In 2004 the number dropped significantly to 51. 3%, yet they were still the biggest group. The following fact may explain the significant drop. The number of children online increased slightly from 17.1% to 18.8%. Meanwhile, the number of users aged between 31 and 50 increased from 23.7% in 2003 to 26.1% in 2004. There were similar increases for older users, rising from 2.9% in 2003 to 3.8% in 2004. In sum, while adults between 18 and 30 still represent the majority of Internet users in China, their share is declining as more children and older adults join the web.
