答案 The Changes in the Number of Recruitment of Master of Engineering The diagram reflects changes in the number of recruitment of Master of Engineering from 1998 to 2004. According to the figures given in the diagram, we can see the number of recruitment of ME has grown steadily over the years. In 1998, the recruitment number was around 2, 500 ; two years later, the number almost tripled ; the number hit 25,000 in 2002, ten times over that of 1998 ; the 2004 figure shows a growth of more than 10, 000 students over 2002. The reasons that can account for this dramatic change may be summarized as follows. First of all, a diploma in ME makes the graduates more competitive and marketable in job-hunting. In the second place, the rapid development of Chinese economy and society calls for more professionals, especially those in high-tech industries. Thirdly, more and more people take efforts to upgrade themselves, and further study at college is an effective way to achieve this. Taking all these factors into consideration, we may reasonably predict that with the rapid development of our society, the number of recruitment of ME will keep increasing in the forthcoming years.
