答案
What should the main function of universities be There is a growing tendency at present for universities to offer courses that help graduates to find employment. As to this trend, some people believe that the main function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for its own sake. But I can’ t agree with them, and in my opinion, the main function of a university should be to give access to knowledge for the whole society’ s sake. Universities play an important role in the development of the nation, for the talents that society needs are provided by universities. Nowadays, with the fast development and changes of society, the function of education is getting more and n/ore important than ever before. It’ s not exaggerated that the progress of a nation depends largely on education, so universities, as an important component of education, should make adjustment of themselves so that they can better promote the development of the whole nation. If universities just give access to knowledge for their own sake, then the prospective employees they provided for the market will not satisfy the social requirements, thus impeding the further progress. In general, universities should be society and market-oriented, rather than give access to knowledge for their own sake.
