The government of Nepal says it believes at least fifteen hundred people have been killed by a devastating earthquake. The Information Minister says that number could triple in the next 24 hours, as many people are still thought to be buried in the collapsed buildings.
It was the worst earthquake to hit Nepal in 80 years. Old brick buildings, electric wires kept crashing down, and large cracks opened upon streets and roads. Residents ran out of homes and buildings in panic. Some witnesses said it was like being on a boat in heavy seas.
Many countries and international charities have offered aid to Nepal to deal with the disaster. India was the first to send several aircrafts, carrying medical supplies and a mobile hospital. Certainly, shelter and food is something really urgent.
1 Why could deaths triple in the next 24 hours?
2 What do we learn about the earthquake?
选项
A、It was the world’s worst earthquake in 80 years.
B、It created great panic among the residents.
C、Most residents spent the night outside in the open.
D、Some witnesses were sent on a boat after the earthquake.
答案
B
解析
题目询问这次地震的相关信息。新闻中提到“居民们惊慌地跑出房屋和建筑”,说明此次地震确实使得居民很恐慌,B中的created great panic与新闻中的in panic意思一致。
