I don’t think that any ban of fireworks will ever kill the fascination some people (especially young ones) have for them. A much better way would be to educate people about fireworks. We are surrounded by dangerous things all our lives but get taught how to use them safely. Why should fireworks be an exception?
Tracy (China)
As a tradition they absolutely add to the festival’s happiness. They shouldn’t be banned totally. But the time should be reduced. For example, fireworks can be allowed just on New Year’s Eve, the first day of the Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival.
Sam (Malaysia)
Banning firecrackers and fireworks alone may not solve the air pollution problem and other issues. Moreover, it will take away the pleasure and expectations that Chinese people have with firecrackers and fireworks during festivals. What is important is that the firing of firecrackers and fireworks should be managed to ensure minimum probable air pollution, disturbances and other issues that they may cause.
Andrew (Australia)
I live in Australia and we aren’t allowed any sort of fireworks. It’s not fun any more because everything considered "not safe" is banned. There are billions of things that are not safe. So why spoil the fun? Let fireworks be legal. It’s fun and as I said before, there are heaps of things that aren’t safe like knives, cars, matches and skateboards.

I love fireworks but keep them in organized displays. I now believe selling fireworks directly to the public should be banned. I don’t have a problem with displays for all kinds of celebrations, several times a year, but the firing of fireworks for weeks on end, on the street and into the early hours must be stopped. It is upsetting most animals and small children, endangering lives and costing a fortune. Please, enough is enough. Ban the sale of fireworks unless a license is obtained by the organizer.
GhostBuster (the UK)
Most cities in China have buildings too close for comfort. In some places, firecrackers are a major cause of fires, resulting in fatalities. If China’s government really cares, then it should not allow setting off firecrackers unless in designated areas. Remember, during happy holiday seasons, it should not be turned into a fatal disaster with the loss of lives!
Edwards (the US)
Nowadays, urbanites are relatively richer and can buy greater numbers of fireworks, and the spaces between tall buildings are not wide enough. So the danger of accidents triggered by fireworks is much greater than that in country areas. What’s worse, when big fires occur, it’s hard for people living in big buildings to get out.
Feifei (China)
The sound of fireworks is a sign of saying goodbye to the past year and welcoming the new one. It also reveals the good mood of Chinese people during the Spring Festival. It’s a valuable and precious tradition for Chinese people to celebrate important festivals, especially as more and more people are complaining that festivals are less and less festive these days.

答案
To Ban Fireworks Is not an Ideal Solution Some people favor a total ban of fireworks no matter when and where for reasons of danger or environmental considerations, and some do not treat setting off fireworks as a fun thing. However, some others are more conservative because they believe, firstly, fireworks represent traditional wishes and the festival’s happiness; secondly, fireworks are dangerous because of poor management and thirdly, fireworks do not contribute much to environmental pollution. Therefore, a moderate regulation and the organized displays are much more welcome. Fireworks may be a genuine source of distress, particularly to older people and even pets. Sometimes the consequences can be lethal. However, in my opinion, in the hands of a responsible person, fireworks are as safe as crossing the road. What’s more, all the problems of loud noises and injuries caused by fireworks are easy to settle. On the one hand, authorities need to be serious about monitoring and banning the production, trafficking and the sale of powerful and dangerous fireworks. On the other hand, the public should be fully aware of the danger of setting off fireworks and take operations correctly as instructed. Some people argue that fireworks are also detrimental to the environment, because they contain a certain number of toxic and polluting substances, which influence the ecosystem and people’s health. However, this issue can also be handled by regulations and laws as what has been implemented in China that setting off fireworks is solely allowed on very special occasions. To conclude, while dangerous if in the wrong hands, fireworks are actually safer than many other things; while health is jeopardized when people inhale the harmful fine dust that fireworks have released, sensible measures can be taken to avoid that. Therefore, fireworks should not be banned. I assume the scientific answer to the fireworks’ dispute is not a simple "yes" or "no", but a "how" to make fireworks safer, less disturbing and more environmentally friendly.
