Although only three athletes are shown in the above drawing, the problem that exists in the picture occurs also in many athletes. Although the drawing seems to apply only to athletes, it is actually applicable to many of us, who display poor moral character when placed in losing or winning positions. When we lose, we sometimes feel too disappointed to go on, and perhaps overly-pessimistic and depressed. When we win, we sometimes become imperious, and being too focused on the present and feeling unbeatable, we cannot see the potential difficulties that may arise in the future. We forget the struggles that made our success possible. In fact, failure is the mother of success, and success can give birth to failure. Being unable to rationally deal with failure and calmly face success are simply manifestations of a weak will.
