答案
It is a known fact that nowadays technology has changed the way people communicate with each other. As far as I’m concerned, this has become a positive trend. To begin with, owing to the rapid development of technology, we can communicate faster and more cost-effectively. It is difficult to the point of impossibility for the young generation to imagine a time when people communicated with each other via postal mail or telegraph, which was both time-consuming and expensive. Now via the Internet and mobile devices such as cellular phones and tablets, people can interact with each other instantaneously across any distance whether through email, instant message, social media, or countless apps without having to wait long for a stamped letter to make its way across the miles. Besides, as device costs plummet and network access approaches ubiquity, the cost of communication among people has been dramatically reduced. Another great change technology has brought to human relationships is that we can meet more people and make more friends. In the chatting room or network forums, we can encounter large numbers of people and make friends with them at the click of a mouse, some of whom may come from another country and we wouldn’t have met otherwise in the past. In this sense, technology transcends national boundaries and geographical barriers, thus making the world smaller. It is with the help of technology that we have the chance to substantially enlarge our circle of friends. Furthermore, technology affects the style we communicate. An interesting phenomenon that cannot be ignored is that we add abbreviations, emoticons, network catchwords and so on to our interaction with others. This kind of language comes into being with technology and gradually makes its way into the mainstream. Without any doubt, it enriches our communication. However, while we give credit to the positive influence of technology on human relationships, we should never neglect its negative side. The most common one is that it isolates people by discouraging real-life interaction. For example, many people are addicted to making friends online rather than building sound relationships with people in the real world. Consequently, they become alienated from the world around them. In conclusion, technology has revolutionized the way people interact with each other. Looking at the big picture, we can safely say that its influence upon human relationships is generally positive.
