1. What is the best age for children to start computer lessons? 1 Well, I think the best age for children to start computer lessons is 6 years old, probably in the first year of primary school, because as a kid, they will absorb knowledge like a sponge. I believe the earlier they start, the better because it’s an essential Part of daily life these days and they will certainly use it in their future career. 2 I would say high school. By the time children have become teenagers, I think that they have the reasoning and logic capabilities in order to start using, and even programming, computers. The ability to use a PC or laptop is essential in today’s society, so it should start relatively early. 2. Do you think schools should use more technology to help children learn? 1 I would say yes. You know, technology is integral to our way of life. The kids always play with mobile phones, computers and other gadgets, and they feel very familiar with these kinds of things, so if schools use more technology to help children learn, it would be more convenient and more effective. 2 To be honest, no. I think adding more technology to what they already have is just, well, too much. I believe that many of them would rather use the technology for games rather than education. I know that, because I’ve done it myself. 3. Do you agree or disagree that computers will replace teachers one day? 1 Yes!! I think it’s a very obvious truth, because now, computers can teach us everything already. You know, the high technology is developing rapidly, and the Internet has been humanized. So, one day, teachers can be replaced by computers, maybe even IELTS examiners too!! 2 No, absolutely not! I think teachers are irreplaceable. When students have difficulty in the work, the variables are just too wide for a computer to handle. An experienced teacher will be able to deal with questions and problems much easier. Computers are a wonderful tool that can help people, but it will never replace them. 4. How much has technology improved how we communicate with each other? 1 Enormously! I think that what we have now is completely unrecognizable to someone from 50 or maybe 100 years ago. The speed with which we can connect with people, and the diversity of options would be beyond their belief. Take WeChat as an example. We can text our friends or family wherever they are at any time, basically for free. Not only that, but we can send a voice message or even have a video call with them. I don’t think that Mr. Bell ever dreamed of that. 2 In my opinion it has made a huge difference in not only how we communicate, but also when. What I mean by this is, rather than simply using a landline phone we have the mobile, or these days, smart phone that can use a multitude of Apps to communicate across the world. I’m thinking of software like FaceBook, WeChat and Skype. Communication is readily available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Now, whether you think that’s a good thing is a different question. 5. Do you agree that there are still many more major technological innovations to be made? 1 Oh yes, completely. For the last few years computers, smartphones and even the Internet have been getting faster to use with more and different capabilities and uses. I think 5G will be the next great leap forward which will just blow the mobile phone networks open, and really allow mobile phones to follow suit. 2 I don’t know about many, but I think there maybe a few. It’s hard for me to imagine any more beyond what has been done already. I think that maybe one of them will be a functioning Robot assistant with an effective AI. We’re still a long way from that, but I think it will happen in my lifetime. 6. Could you suggest some reasons why some people are deciding to reduce their use of technology? 1 I think that Part of it is because some people are just sick of being surrounded by technology all day long. Everything from their washing machine that automatically orders new powder, to their smart speaker that buys them food, to the mobile phone that they can’t turn off, to their Internet-connected TV telling them what to watch. They feel trapped and unable to escape. I kind of agree with this, as I believe that people need a good work-life balance and should sometimes just switch everything off and go for a walk in the sunshine with their family. 2 Some people are realising that the family unit is being degraded by everyone individually using their own tech. For example, Dad likes watching the news on TV, Mum likes downloading new recipes from the internet and the children are constantly playing games on their mobiles. The result of this is that no-one is talking to each about their day and putting effort into the family relationships.
