问题 There is little doubt humanity is on the precipice of massive change in how we work. The only question is whether it is a future of shared prosperity and leisure or one of mass unemployment and turmoil. Robots and AI promise a fourth age characterized by new challenges, including what the place of humans will be in a world filled with devices that are stronger and potentially smarter than us. Write an argumentative essay of about 400 words on the following topic: My Personal Views on Artificial Intelligence.

答案 My Personal Views on Artificial Intelligence Some people paint a picture of a dystopian future where robots have taken over the world, making humans sluggish and overweight. But history shows that this vision is far more suitable for science fiction than reality. While Artificial Intelligence is fueling massive changes in business, it’s pessimistic to say that it will replace human beings. I don’t think robots and AI will lead to massive unemployment. First, humans will work together with robots and AI rather than be replaced by them. While robots and AI in the workplace may eliminate some positions, it can also create new kinds of jobs. ATMs, for instance, made it cheaper for banks to operate their branches, so the number of technical personnel increased. A report from the World Economic Forum estimated that AI would create a net total of 97 million new jobs by 2025. Second, there is no doubt that achievements made in deep learning or neural networks are impressive. Nevertheless, it is not the fastest and most cost-effective way for the average enterprise to apply AI into practical use because it isn’t smart enough to do jobs by its own. It still needs human supervision. Besides, as we all know, a certain kind of algorithm is at the core of the robots or AI. Thus, on the one hand, in practice, AI may misunderstand or don’t understand the order that a person gives it as the result that the context counts a lot in the meaning of a specific sentence. And that’s the reason why what seems like effortless communication to humans may pose multiple obstacles to some robots designed to communicate with people. On the other hand, robots or AI can operate normally unless training data or corpus are supplied in copious quantities, which means before robots or AI begins to work, a lot of things need to be prepared in advance. Even so, when the algorithm is faced with too many ambiguities, too many options, and too little data, the result from it may still be confusing. So, the application of robots and AI may not be a cost-effective alternative for ordinary companies now. Third, AI or robots do potentially put low-skilled workers at risk. However, this may be a short-term effect as the labor market re-adjusts. There have been technological developments from early 19th century. Warnings of technology being a harbinger of death of the job market are nothing new. As technology develops, low-skill workers will reallocate to tasks that can’t be automated. What should worry us is not AI? but how to improve our skills to keep pace with the development of the times. Perhaps the reflection to the impact of AI on the workplace of the future is not to give dire warnings but to think about how to re-educate and re-skill workers, which will help people to adapt to the next big revolution.
