Use of the illegal drug named Ecstasy(MDMA)has increased alarmingly in Britain over the last few years. Many deaths have so far been【C1】______to the drug in Britain although it is possible that other drugs contributed to some of those deaths. While it is true that all drugs by their very nature change the way in which the body reacts to its environment and are therefore potentially dangerous, it is still unclear whether casual use of Ecstasy is as dangerous as【C2】______believe. What is certain is that the drug causes【C3】______changes to the body which may lead to【C4】______complications in certain circumstances. In almost all cases of MDMA-related deaths in Britain, overheating of the body and inadequate replacement of fluids have been noted as the【C5】______causes of death. However, not all physical problems【C6】______with the drug are immediate. Medium-term and long term effects have been reported which are quite disturbing, yet not all are conclusively linked to the drugs use. Medium term effects include the possibility of【C7】______the liver disease hepatitis, or risking【C8】______to the kidneys. Animal studies show no such damage, although it is readily admitted by researchers that animal studies are far from conclusive since humans react in different ways than rats and monkeys to the drug. Perhaps the most damning evidence urging against the use of Ecstasy is that it is【C9】______an addictive substance, and one that quickly loses its ability to transport the mind, while it increases its effect upon the body. Yet, unlike the classic addictive drugs, Ecstasy does not produce physical【C10】______symptoms. In fact, because one becomes quickly tolerant of its effect on the mind, it is necessary to forgo its use for a while in order to experience again its full effect.
A)primary I)owed
B)primitive J)attributed
C)fatal K)undoubtedly
D)infecting L)traditionally

【C8】
选项
答案
M
解析
空前动名词risking及空后介词to提示所填词应为名词,且能与介词to构成合理搭配。本句主要是讲Ecstasy对人体的中期影响包括the possibility of...或(the possibility of)risking…,由此可知,所填词应表达消极含义,表明Ecstasy对the kidneys“肾脏”的不利影响。备选项中的名词既能与to构成合理搭配,又能表达消极含义的只有M)damage“破坏”。damage to…意为“对……的破坏”。
