On Empty-nest Families
1.空巢家庭问题引起了人们的普遍关注
2.分析这一现象产生的原因
3.如何解决这一问题
选项
答案
Empty-nest families, which mean elderly people live alone in their apartments or "empty nests", have become prevalent in modern society and attracted a great deal of public attention. The two basic factors causing the empty-nest families are the economic development and changes in social norms. First, with the increasing globalization and urbanization, we have entered a completely new stage. More and more people choose to move to big cities or go abroad to pursue their careers. As a result, the elderly parents are left living alone at home. Second, the era of extended families is gone and children’s moving out of their parents’ home is seen as common practice. In the past, people hold tightly to the traditional value of taking care of their elderly parents, but now values are gradually changing. It is sometimes rather inconvenient or impractical for modern men to live with their elderly parents. To my mind, we should call for the general public to be aware of the phenomenon and care about the hard life of the lonely elderly people. A social security system should be developed to help them and a caring system should be established to promote the caring professions.
