问题    In the new era of information technology, human identity, the idea that defines each and every one of us, could be facing an unprecedented crisis. It is a crisis that would threaten long-held notions of who we are, what we do and how we behave. According to neuroscientists, this crisis could reshape the way we think, we learn and we interact with each other, alter what makes us happy, and modify our capacity for reaching our full potential as individuals. 答案 Changes Are Needed in University to Improve Reading and Learning Today, college students tend to spend more time browsing information on digital devices like larger-screened smartphones than reading a printed book from cover to cover. This phenomenon indicates that the post-1990s’ reading habit has gradually changed from paper-based deep reading to internet-based fragmented reading. In fact, deep reading is a sophisticated process in which people can critically think, reflect and understand the words they are looking at. Without reading and really understanding what’s being said, it is impossible to be an educated citizen of the world, a knowledgeable and imaginative thinker. Therefore, urgent changes are needed in universities to adapt to students’ learning needs and change their reading habits. Firstly, students’ wrong thoughts should be corrected. In the world of today where knowledge is increasing rapidly and science and technology impose constant changes to human life, it is observed that humans constantly need to improve themselves for the purpose of being able to adapt to change, education and lifelong learning. Most post-1990s’ students attending university with eager to the latest information and professional knowledge, which makes them interest in reading. Due to the ever-changing information technology, most of them are bombarded with tremendous amounts of information. Therefore, students should be corrected with right ideas about reading and learning. They should know what is unrelated content and fragmented information as well as what is needed for self-improvement. Reading is surely a good habit. If one reads a lot on useless, he’d better not to read. Secondly, systematical guidance should be given. University education, which is quite different from secondary education, aims to develop students’ abilities of creative and independent thinking. Teachers should give systematic guidance, rather than use cramming method of teaching. For example, students could be given a book list to enrich learning content so as to shift their attention from online clutter to paper books. That given list should contain books with appropriate academic language and interesting as well, thus keeping students focusing on self-improvement. If teachers give the book list at the beginning of a semester and ask students to hand over a relevant paper at the end of the semester, that book list may be useful. If teachers help students to read the books in a systematic process, such as using studying groups to monitor each other during the process of reading, analyzing, discussion and summering, that must be the best. Reading is the basic tool of learning as well as one of the most important foundations of a robust and developed personality. University students are groups that are expected to have a good reading habit, which cannot form through internet-based fragmented reading only. Actions must be taken by the university and the students themselves.
