It is a great honor for me to introduce today’s guest—lecturer Henry Taylor. Dr. Taylor received his B. A. degree in Urban History at Yale University in 1955. Five years later,
he was awarded a master’s degree in Architectures and a Ph. D. in Urban Design from Cornell University
.
Upon graduating, he accepted a teaching position in the Department of Architecture and Fine Arts at Illinois University where he was promoted to chairman of the department in 1969. Last year, Dr. Taylor resigned from the university in order to accept a research position
with the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington as director of planning. In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Taylor has devoted much time to designing, writing, and lecturing. Some of his most famous buildings are right here in the Chicago area, including the Twin Towers office building and the Saint Lawrence Seaway Recreation Center. His many articles on functional architecture and urban planning have appeared in scores of journals over the past 20 years, and half a dozen textbooks are to his credit, including one of the books that we use for this seminar— Trends in Urban Design.
Today, Dr. Taylor will speak to us about federal regulations for urban development, and frankly, I know of no one more qualified to the address. Now, let’s welcome Henry Taylor
.
