It was a model plane made of cardboard. At high secondary school, I joined a model club as an extracurricular programme. I’d always been dreaming of having my own model plane for a long time, but my mum wouldn’t buy me one from the shop because it was too expensive. So I decided to build one by myself. Every weekend and spare time after school, I took the training class in the club to study model building and practise our project. Since I was making a paper-made plane, it wouldn’t fly by itself. I had to use an elastic device to help launch it. There were some movable parts on its wings, too. To design a special flight path, one should adjust the wings and the launch angle. And in order to make a successful take-off, I also need to calculate the wind speed. With the help of elastic force and wind and after countless experiments, I successfully recorded a long flight time and special flight path. My work impressed my tutor and the class. I was so proud of it. This model plane means a lot to me. In fact, building a model plane was hard, but it gave me a sense of fulfilment. Moreover, it felt like my dream finally came true. Like most kids, I have a dream of flying freely in the sky. I can’t do it physically, but my plane could soar.
