Reading Is About Thinking In this picture, the ideal process of reading is vividly presented to us. As can be seen from the picture, ideally, reading is not merely taking in messages from different scholars but also stirring them up and integrating them into one’ s own thought. In other words, reading is about thinking as well. For one thing, reading should be a creative process, converting others’ wisdom into our own belonging, or else it would be a waste of time to repeat what has been clearly stated by others. This will also make sure that the knowledge and experience embodied in the books meet the needs of reality in today’ s world because the reader will add modern wisdom to the essence of those books. For another, reading with thinking can help correct the misunderstanding and mistakes within books. Human beings are confined to their own sphere of comprehension; therefore, readers can only avoid from being misled by thinking independently and making wise judgments. If swallowing the messages without chewing on them, it would be very likely to cause ignorance or bias. Given the above reasons, I highly advocate that people should read and think at the same time. One should stop for a while during reading and leave enough room for thinking, debating and verifying. This is the correct way of reading.
