The girl’s defiance of public interests shows her selfishness, while the disabled man’s consideration for others in spite of his own inconvenience indicates the real unselflessness in his personality. Because of this, the old man is displaying an inner beauty even though he is disabled and somewhat ugly physically compared with the pretty young girl. No doubt beauty usually refers to what is attractive. Outward beauty of course calls the attention of the people, but what is really appealing to people is the inner fine things in humanity. Therefore, true beauty comes from one’s actions rather than one’s appearance. In a word, we should not only pay attention to our physical appearance, but also improve our heart and soul. Only clean and beautiful souls can create a genuinely beautiful society.
