Listen to the following passage. Altogether the passage will be read to you four times. During the first reading, which will be done at normal speed, listen and try to understand the meaning. For the second and third readings, the passage will be read sentence by sentence, or phrase by phrase, with intervals of 15 seconds. The last reading will be done at normal speed again and during this time you should check your work. You will then be given ONE minute to check through your work once more.

Has it ever seemed to you like sunsets take longer than sunrises? On a basic level, it shouldn’t feel right. / Firstly, the way your eyes perceive light is different at the end of the day versus the start of the day. / Human eyes adapted to daylight may have a harder time / perceiving the changes in light as the day fades into the night. / Secondly, in the morning the air is clearer than it is in the evening. / At dawn the sun has to be pretty close to the horizon before it starts lighting up the sky.
