There are also 1. 5 million hectares of farmland which need protection. On-going construction will improve navigation along China’ s largest river, as well as provide new economic opportunities for those living in the regions through which the Yangtze River flows. Three Gorges Project is a massive undertaking, requiring extensive relocation, engineering and construction efforts. Yet while, some people may find it controversial, in the end it promises to play an important part in China’ s future.
