问题 What can we learn about Jack from the dialogue?
W: I’ve invited the whole family to our house for Thanksgiving dinner.
M: What kind of a holiday is Thanksgiving, Mom?
W: Don’t you know, Jack?
M: We’ve only been here in New York for less than three months! How am I supposed to know?
W: The first settlers in the United States celebrated their being alive after a very hard year in their new country.
M: So, I guess we have to celebrate, too. We live here.
W: Thanksgiving comes right after the harvest season, the last Thursday in November.
M: Oh, it’s a kind of harvest festival, giving thanks for all the many good things to eat.
W: We’ll have to go shopping for the turkey and fixings.
M: Why turkey? And what are fixings?
W: The early settlers found wild turkeys in the woods. It was the closest thing to chicken or duck or goose.
M: Yes, like we eat Beijing Duck on special occasions.
W. So they have roasted stuffed turkey every year.
M: But what are the fixings?
W: What the turkey is served with are the fixings — sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, turnips, and for dessert, people help themselves to pumpkin pie.
M: Let’s go to the supermarket and get the bird and fixings!
