I think the most important one is that the costs of accessing information have come down, so people are enjoying more equal access to resources and information. This is especially true for people who live in rural areas. In terms of receiving new information, they usually lag behind people living in the cities. So, the information technology nowadays can reduce the influence of geographical locations, inspiring and educating more people. The disadvantage, however, seems to be that people are more focused on technologies and less so on connections with people around them.
