M: Today we have Victoria Colligan, the author of Ladies Who Launch—Embracing Entrepreneurship& Creativity as a Lifestyle. Victoria, what would you say about what you’ve found in your book?
W: Well, (23)it’s great to see women in power in business.
M: In fact, women are starting businesses at almost three times the rate of men. Why is this happening so fast?
W: Well, (24)the No. 1 reason is to have more freedom control and flexibility in their lives. The No. 2 reason is for creativity and passion. And money is the third reason why they are launching.
M: How do women differ when it comes to making those ideas then become reality as a business?
W: Well, women define success very differently. It’s defined on a lifestyle that they love on a day-to-day basis.
M: What do you say for those who have a hard time leaving their current jobs to focus on their own dream business full-time?
W: I really encourage women to start taking small steps towards their dreams. There are so many opportunities out there.
M: So maybe spend a couple of hours focusing on the business but keep working at their jobs.
W: Yeah, launch until you feel more confident. Women who launch feel better about themselves. (25)Confidence is the main incentive for launching on the side.
M: So what’s your advice for those who launch but have to compete with the established big companies in the business?
W: It depends on what you want out of your business. I think competition makes you creative and innovative.
