This picture sends a strong message to its readers: we must cherish food. As I see it, the importance of cherishing food needs to be stressed, especially when we are a bit better off than we were years ago. Some people never come across experiences like famine or food scarcity. Thus, they do not go along with the idea of keeping leftovers, thinking that only the poor will do that. My father told me what it was like when he was starving at the age of 7. At that time, he was only allowed to eat a morsel of food for every meal, resulting in his constant hunger. Although he is better off now, he never throws away any leftover food and always tries to prepare the right amount of food for the family. Every single grain is the result of toil. Therefore, we should value even a grain of rice by following my father’s example, and set a good example for our children.
