答案 At first glance one can’t help being attracted to this impressive drawing. In the picture, the man is holding high, in both hands, his prestigious award and certificate respectively. However, both the award and the certificate are so brilliant that he could not see anything else, as the caption suggests. Funny as the cartoon looks, its drawer intends much deeper and profound meaning than what you might find at the first glance. What the picture conveys is that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. In other words, pride goes before, and shame comes after. If you are obsessed with your past success and think nothing of further efforts, you will become, to some degree, self-centered and narcissistic, which will result in your fall from grace. Take my friend Tom at the senior high school as an example. When we were at school, Tom was always an A student in almost all the subjects. But later he became too obsessed with his achievements. As a result, he failed in the national college entrance examination. Although he finally managed to enter a prestigious university the next year and became top student of the class, he was one year behind me in terms of high-education. This example shows that no one could afford the destruction and fall brought about by too much pride and haughty spirit.
