答案 The Hazards of Being an Only Child Many people who have grown up in many-child families think that being an only child is the best of all possible worlds. They point to such benefits as the only child gets enough parental care and faces no competition for parental love. However, I believe that being an only child is not as good as people say it is. Only children sometimes are denied the companionship of peers. Obviously, only children lack companionship. An only child can have trouble making friends, since he or she isn’t used to being around with other kids. Often, when both parents are at work, the only child comes home to an empty house, and there are no brothers or sisters to play with or to talk to about the day. At dinner, the single child has no brothers or sister to tell jokes to or make. faces while parents discussing boring adult subjects; An only child has his or her own room but never has anyone to whisper to or tell his/her little secret to when sleep does not come. Owing to the absence of companionship an only child sometimes lacks the Social ease and self-confidence that come from being a part of a closely knitted group of peers. To summarize, lack of companionship can cause psychological side effects to the only child. Being an only child isn’t as special as some people think. It’s no fun being without peer companionship at all.
