Woman: Finally this evening, the Ford Motor Company is embarking on an extraordinary attempt to stand out in a cluttered field of commercials. Next Monday night the company has bought two minutes of commercial time, that’s a lot, at the same time in nearly every conceivable television market in the world. Here is our correspondent Paul Moodie.
Man: No matter what continent, no matter what country, when it’s 9 o’clock Monday night, 13-year-old Weish soprano Charlotte Church will be on television, singing Just Wave Hello . There is no sales pitch. Ford’s millennium message is designed not to sell cars, but image.
Man2: The word communicated to people, rather than the word that Ford is there and will be there, it’s part of their lives.
Manl: For almost the entire last year of the old millennium, Ford and its producers have been preparing the 2-minute commercial intended to greet the new millennium and show the diversity of Ford customers. They filmed for three months in nine countries. That, plus the cost of running the ad, would total tens of millions.
