答案 The chart illustrates the reasons why drink-driving, a big social headache, remains a grave problem. 70.0% of the respondents think drink-drivers take a chance on not being caught by the police, while 69.8% believe drink-drivers are not severely punished. Low security consciousness and legal awareness among the public account for 64.1%. Other reasons are also mentioned, such as laxity in dealing with drink-driving and inadequate police resources (63.8%), punishment allowing too much flexibility (61.9%). The survey results clearly indicate that more efforts should be made by the government to resolve drink-driving. To begin with, awareness campaigns should be launched to educate people of the importance of safe driving and their responsibility for public safety. Moreover, it is of utmost necessity that penalties be increased for drink-driving and the law enforcement be strengthened. A car is a weapon when used irresponsibly. Only when citizens increase their sense of responsibility or level of morality and there are adequate penalties and law enforcement can drink-driving be safely prevented.
